SOME DEFINITIONS

Modern Garden Roses

Hybrid roses, generally those introduced since 1876 and not included in the classification for Old or Wild Roses.

Old Garden Roses

Roses of the types shown in the above listed classifications.

Wild Roses

Specie Roses and hybrids of species that continue to bear a strong resemblance to the specie rose.

   

Double Flowered

Varieties that have flowers with more than 20 petals

Semi-Double Flowered

Varieties that have flowers with 8 to 20 petals

Single Flowered

Varieties with flowers with less than 8 petals

   

Large Flowered Rose (Hybrid Tea)

Medium to large blooms that are generally taller rather than flat in the half to three quarter open stage. Flowers are borne singly or with only few side buds on each stem.

Cluster Flowered (Floribunda)

Flowers are generally flatter and more open than those of hybrid teas. Flowers are borne in clusters on each stem.

Dwarf Cluster Flowered (Polyantha)

Small Flowers and foliage otherwise similar in habit to Floribundas.

Miniature

Roses with miniature blooms, foliage and growth. Although not indicated in the international classification for roses the modern miniature rose now has the sub group Hybrid Tea Type and Floribunda type.
